Bike Root Community Bicycle Shop

“Founded in 2008, the Bike Root is a 100% volunteer-run, campus community bicycle shop located at the University of Calgary in Calgary, Alberta. In addition to being an incorporated not-for-profit society, the Bike Root is also a University of Calgary Student Union sanctioned club. Here at the Bike Root, the workspace and tools are available to all of our members. However, unlike a conventional bike shop, we do not provide repairs but instead, empower our members and provide them with the skills needed to repair their bikes themselves.” Website Link

Good Life Community Bicycle Shop

“The Good Life Community Bicycle Shop is an nonprofit education and resource centre that uses bicycles as a vehicle to empowering individuals and communities through DIY & supported bicycle repair and maintenance, used bikes & parts, and workshops. Founded on the values of mutual aid, equality, inclusion, anti-oppression, and connection to and care for the environment, we also invite individuals to volunteer their time and skills to help others. We strive to offer a safe, supportive and inclusive place where community members can interact, help out, and learn from each other.  Aside from the benefits of encouraging self-sufficiency, resiliency, empowerment and community connections, environmental benefits go beyond reducing carbon emissions through reduced traffic congestion and individual production in addition to recycling bicycles and parts otherwise destined for the waste stream – bicycles are an accessible entry-point to addressing the bigger picture challenges that humanity and the planet face” Website Link
